Addis Ababa, October 28, 2026 (FMC) — The Russian-language edition of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s book Medemer was launched in Moscow, extending the international reach of Ethiopia’s indigenous philosophy and strengthening intellectual and cultural ties between Ethiopia and Russia.
PM Abiy attended the launch, describing the event in a social media post as a historic milestone that demonstrates how Medemer, rooted in Ethiopian indigenous knowledge, has crossed borders to achieve global impact.
Previously translated into English, Chinese and Arabic, the book’s Russian edition opens another avenue for the philosophy to reach international readers.
PM Abiy said this expansion strengthens the book’s international reach and diplomatic value, while demonstrating Ethiopia’s capacity to contribute mature and sophisticated ideas to the global community.
The Prime Minister also framed the Russian edition as part of a reciprocal exchange of knowledge between the two countries.
While Russian intellectual traditions have long inspired Ethiopian scholars, he said, the publication of Medemer in Russian represents an opportunity for Ethiopian ideas to reach Russian-speaking audiences.
PM Abiy expressed appreciation to the leadership and media professionals of Russia Today (RT) for their dedication to the project.
He said the new edition would help build a stronger cultural and intellectual bridge between the Ethiopian and Russian peoples, adding a new dimension to the relationship through the exchange of ideas and indigenous knowledge.
The launch comes as PM Abiy is in Moscow to attend the Third Russia–Africa Summit, which brings together Russia and African countries for engagement on their relations and cooperation.
His visit has also featured a defence cooperation milestone: earlier today, he oversaw the handover of 12 Russian-made Su-35 fighter jets to Ethiopia under the two countries’ defence agreement.
