PM Abiy calls for responsible fuel use amid Middle East situation

Addis Ababa, March 16, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has urged fuel distributors, service stations, and consumers to exercise responsible use of petroleum products as global oil supply faces challenges due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

In a message shared on his social media pages this morning, the Prime Minister highlighted that countries reliant on imported oil are encountering difficulties in securing sufficient supplies amid regional tensions.

He called on all stakeholders to conserve fuel carefully until the situation stabilizes and normal supply conditions are restored.

“Due to the current situation in the Middle East, countries that import and consume oil have struggled to obtain supplies. Until the situation is resolved and oil distribution returns to normal, we must use fuel economically and prioritize essential needs,” PM Abiy stated.

The Prime Minister also urged fuel distributors and service stations to act responsibly, ensuring that available supplies are allocated to essential services and priority sectors.

He further reminded consumers to avoid unnecessary consumption and to use fuel judiciously during this period of global oil market uncertainty.
