Addis Ababa, October 9, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has concluded his participation in the 24th Summit of the COMESA Authority of Heads of State and Government in Nairobi, Kenya, and has returned to Ethiopia, his office confirmed this evening.
It is noteworthy that the Ethiopian PM travelled to the Kenyan capital early on Thursday to participate in the Summit.
During the summit, held under the theme “Leveraging Digitalization to Deepen Regional Value Chains for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth,” PM Abiy highlighted the transformative potential of digitalization in reshaping Africa’s economic future.
He emphasized that the continent possesses the talent and digital foundations necessary to connect national efforts and accelerate regional integration.
The Prime Minister underscored Ethiopia’s strides in digital transformation through initiatives such as Digital Ethiopia 2030, the digital ID program serving over 25 million citizens, a robust digital payment ecosystem, and the training of more than 2.2 million young Ethiopians in coding and AI.
He called on African nations to collaborate regionally, envisioning a commercial space where digital identification, payments, and data flow seamlessly, fostering trust, innovation, and inclusive prosperity.
PM Abiy reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to work with neighboring countries to turn digital potential into regional power and to advance shared prosperity across COMESA member states.
