PM Abiy: Corridor dev’t projects are powering Ethiopia’s urban and economic renewal

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored that Ethiopia’s ongoing corridor development projects are playing a transformative role in advancing urban renewal, stimulating local economies, and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Together with members of the Prosperity Party Executive Committee, the Prime Minister today visited the newly completed corridor development stretching from Sar Bet to German Square, encompassing the Garment Factory and Furi areas in Addis Ababa.

Covering more than 589 hectares, the project stands as the second largest and widest urban corridor after Kazanchis. It includes the construction of 16.5 kilometers of asphalt roads, three kilometers of internal roads, and 33 kilometers of pedestrian walkways.

The development also features plazas, sports facilities, children’s playgrounds, and 5.2 kilometers of riverbank improvements. Additional components include parking areas, terminals, an electric car charging station, and 1,107 shops built by both public and private developers.

In a message shared on his social media pages this morning, Prime Minister Abiy noted that the project integrates 50.5 hectares of green spaces, 13.3 kilometers of bicycle lanes, public toilets, and 38 taxi and bus bays—elements designed to enhance mobility, accessibility, and community interaction.

He emphasized that such national corridor projects are not only reshaping Ethiopia’s urban landscapes but are also strengthening local economies by creating vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable public spaces that reflect the country’s broader development vision.
