Addis Ababa, April 28, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted the critical role of social development in shaping Ethiopia’s future, following his participation in a consultative forum on “Social Development for Nation Building” held in the capital.
The forum brought together government officials, experts, and stakeholders to review and discuss major achievements in Ethiopia’s social sector over recent years, covering areas such as education, health, labor, culture, and social services.
It provided a platform for reflection on progress made and for planning the next steps to ensure the sector’s long-term impact.
In a social media statement, the Prime Minister noted that while social sector progress—encompassing education, health, labor, and community services—may not yield immediate or tangible results like physical infrastructure, it establishes a sustainable foundation essential for national growth.
“Ethiopia is being built at a rapid pace, faster than many realize,” he wrote, emphasizing that the government has attempted improvements across all areas of the social sector despite limited resources.
PM Abiy called for continued collective effort, stressing that translating goals into practical results requires active engagement from the entire community.
“Just as one hand cannot clap alone, the community must join as a stakeholder alongside the government’s initiatives,” he said.
