Addis Ababa, September 7, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia is translating its development vision into tangible progress through major infrastructure projects and macroeconomic reforms, highlighting the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), corridor developments, the Bishoftu International Airport project and ongoing economic reforms.
The Prime Minister conveyed the message Monday through his social media pages as Ethiopia observed Pagume 2, the Day of Renewal, the second of five themed days being observed under the overarching theme “Ethiopia’s Renewal” as the country approaches the end of the outgoing 2018 Ethiopian calendar year.
In his message, the Prime Minister said Ethiopia’s recent development efforts are increasingly reflected in concrete projects and reforms, describing the current phase as a transition from expressing a national vision to implementing it through practical measures.
He cited the GERD, corridor developments, the Bishoftu International Airport mega project and macroeconomic reforms as examples of the country’s ongoing development efforts.
According to the Prime Minister, these initiatives are contributing to improvements in citizens’ daily lives, including better urban mobility and expanded employment opportunities, while also supporting longer-term development prospects for the next generation.
He said the foundations for the country’s continued development have been laid and emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of ongoing initiatives.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need to further accelerate development efforts in order to translate the progress achieved so far into sustainable prosperity.
He described the ongoing process as part of a broader national development journey and expressed confidence that continued implementation would strengthen Ethiopia’s development trajectory.
The message followed the Prime Minister’s Pagume 1 message, in which he highlighted economic self-reliance, domestic production and macroeconomic reforms in connection with the Day of Breakthrough.
The five-day Pagume observance provides an opportunity to reflect on achievements recorded during the outgoing 2018 Ethiopian calendar year, assess progress and renew commitments for the year ahead.
Pagume 2, designated as the Day of Renewal, focuses on strengthening Ethiopia’s economic base and advancing key sectors including agriculture, industry, mining, tourism, the digital economy, renewable energy and infrastructure.
