Addis Ababa, June 3, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed appreciation for the African Union Election Observation Mission following his meeting with former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and members of the mission in Addis Ababa.
In a social media post shared today, the Prime Minister said he was pleased to meet Uhuru Kenyatta and his delegation, noting the presence and work of the African Union Election Observation Mission deployed to Ethiopia’s 7th General Election.
He stated that Ethiopia is grateful to the 73-member African Union Election Observation Mission, led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, for its service and contribution to the country’s democracy-building process.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that African institutions play a central role in ensuring that democratic processes are grounded in regional context and experience.
He also recognized and appreciated the efforts of election observers who were deployed across the country during the electoral process, noting their role in supporting the conduct of the election and expressing anticipation for the mission’s findings.
