PM Abiy Extends Mawlid Greetings, Calls on Ethiopians to Embrace Purpose, Sacrifice and Service

Addis Ababa, August 24, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended his greetings and best wishes on the occasion of the 1,501st Mawlid al-Nabi, calling on Ethiopians to draw lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad and translate them into purpose, sacrifice and service in the country’s nation-building efforts.

In his message, the Prime Minister described the life of Prophet Muhammad as an enduring example of purpose, conviction and commitment, saying his experience offers lessons capable of positively shaping generations.

He noted that the Prophet understood the significance of his mission and honored it through his words, actions and way of life.

Prime Minister Abiy highlighted the hardships and sacrifices Prophet Muhammad endured in pursuing his mission, including displacement, deprivation, separation from family and severe trials.

He said the experience demonstrates that meaningful achievement and dignity require perseverance and a willingness to bear the sacrifices demanded by a greater purpose.

He also underscored the Prophet’s determination to share his message beyond himself, noting that it began with a small number of followers before reaching a wider community and ultimately extending across the world.

The Prime Minister said this demonstrates that recognizing and believing in a purpose must be accompanied by sustained efforts to communicate it and enable others to embrace it.

Drawing on these lessons, Prime Minister Abiy called on Ethiopians who believe in a greater national purpose to demonstrate that commitment through their words, work and daily lives, rather than limiting it to conviction alone.

He urged citizens to use the occasion of Mawlid to reflect on the Prophet’s life and apply its lessons to Ethiopia’s state-building efforts, emphasizing the importance of commitment, perseverance and service in advancing the country’s aspirations.

Prime Minister Abiy extended his best wishes for a blessed Mawlid celebration and expressed hope that Ethiopia would continue to live with pride and dignity through the efforts of its citizens.
