Addis Ababa, January 7, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and First Lady Zinash Tayachew spent Ethiopian Christmas (Genna) with students of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak School for the Blind, sharing a holiday meal and marking the occasion with the school community.
The visit formed part of the Ethiopian Christmas celebrations being observed across the nation today, reflecting values of compassion, care and social solidarity associated with the holiday.
In a post shared on his social media pages, the Prime Minister said he and the First Lady were honored to celebrate the day with the students, noting that spending the morning together served as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of the spirit of Genna.
In his Christmas holiday greetings shared yesterday, the Prime Minister underscored the need to approach the holiday with hope, unity and a forward-looking spirit. He emphasized that Ethiopia has endured challenges but is entering a period of renewed aspiration, calling on citizens to work together, overcome hardships through collective effort, and strengthen national resilience while striving for a brighter and peaceful future.
