PM Abiy highlights urban transformation achievements through corridor dev’t initiative

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored the significant impact of the nationwide corridor development initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered urban transformation.

In a statement shared via his social media channels, the Prime Minister emphasized that the initiative is a tangible reflection of Ethiopia’s strategic development objectives.

“The corridors development initiative reflects our commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and people-centred urban transformation as articulated in the Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda,” he stated.

Prime Minister Abiy further noted that the benefits of this urban transformation extend well beyond the capital, shaping the development of multiple regional urban centers across the country.

“Implemented across cities beyond Addis Ababa, the initiative is enhancing urban mobility, revitalizing public spaces, strengthening local economies, and improving environmental resilience,” he explained.

According to the Prime Minister, the overarching goal of these projects is to cultivate a more integrated and prosperous national economy through modern urban planning.

“By connecting neighborhoods and unlocking the economic and social potential of cities nationwide, our work reflects a clear national vision: building livable, competitive, and inclusive cities that foster balanced development and shared prosperity across Ethiopia,” he said.
