PM Abiy Inaugurates Tulu Arara Integrated Model Village to Boost Housing and Livelihoods

Addis Ababa, January 7, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today inaugurated the integrated Tulu Arara model village, a development initiative designed to provide dignified housing and sustainable livelihoods, together with First Lady Zinash Tayachew and senior government officials.

In a message shared on his social media pages, the Prime Minister said that the inauguration marks a significant upgrade of the rainy-season volunteer and charity program, elevating it to a more structured and sustainable development approach.

The model village covers an area of 7,000 square meters and consists of standard homes, each containing five rooms, including two bedrooms. “Each house has been constructed to standard and contains a total of five rooms, including two bedrooms,” he said.

According to PM Abiy, the project is designed to offer comfortable and dignified housing for 150 citizens at household level.

He stated that the village is equipped with essential infrastructure, including internal roads, electricity and solar power systems, recreational and fitness spaces, as well as green development initiatives.

To sustainably improve residents’ livelihoods, the Prime Minister explained that the model village incorporates an integrated production and market value chain system. “This development initiative combines dairy cattle and poultry farming along with backyard gardening, and an integrated commercial chain has been established that extends all the way to market outlets,” he said.

He emphasized that the initiative is intended not only to provide housing, but also to ensure long-term economic empowerment and improved living standards for the beneficiaries.
