Addis Ababa, June 2, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today launched the construction of model rural villages in Wera Dijo Woreda, Sinbita Kebele, Halaba Zone of the Central Ethiopia Region, as part of the country’s ongoing rural corridor development initiative.
Speaking after the launch, the Prime Minister stated that the initiative—designed to uplift rural livelihoods—is now being expanded to regions across the country.
“These model villages are low-cost and will be built using locally available materials, enabling farmers to live healthy, dignified lives,” he noted.
In the surrounding area, more than 2,000 hectares of land are now under irrigation. According to the Prime Minister, high-quality maize seeds are being multiplied, while vegetables and fruits are also being cultivated—transforming a region once vulnerable to floods and drought into a hub of sustainable development.
