Addis Ababa, February 18, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised the cooperative work and effective use of resources by farmers at a banana cluster farm in Hawa Gelan Woreda, part of Kelem Welega Zone in the Oromia Region, developed under the Bounty of the Basket (Lemat Tirūfat) initiative.
The Prime Minister traveled to Kelem Welega Zone today and arrived in Dembi Dolo town earlier, where he reviewed key development initiatives in the area.
In a social media post after his visit, the Prime Minister said he was “encouraged to see farmers working together in an organized and cooperative manner, transforming the area through their dedication and hard work.”
He described the farm as “a strong example of how properly utilizing local land and water resources can create meaningful change.”
He also highlighted the community’s use of traditional irrigation methods and effective resource management, noting that these practices have helped build “a productive and promising agricultural site.”
The Prime Minister added that improved road infrastructure is supporting farmers in bringing their produce to market with greater ease, reflecting “what can be achieved when development efforts are closely aligned with the needs and potential of the local community.”
