Addis Ababa, November 16, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has emphasized the need for Ethiopia to actively participate in the global technological race, highlighting the rapid development of the country’s Artificial Intelligence Institute (AII) over the past five years.
The Prime Minister today visited the Institute’s newly relocated facility, now housed in the former headquarters of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) in central Addis Ababa, to observe the upgraded infrastructure and working environment supporting innovation and research.
Following the visit, Abiy said on social media that the new complex had undergone “an extraordinary infrastructural transformation in less than a year,” resulting in “an ergonomically advanced and highly conducive work environment” for its employees.
He noted that the Institute had reached remarkable heights in just five years, reflecting the rapid pace at which AI is shaping every aspect of life and underscoring the importance of ensuring that Ethiopia actively participates in this global technological race.
According to the Prime Minister, the Institute is driving AI interventions across health, agriculture, and the service sector, while also developing capabilities in cloud computing, large-scale data centers, data mining, robotics, and immersive technologies.
Abiy also highlighted the newly launched AI startup center, which strengthens the innovation ecosystem by enabling individuals to enter with only an idea and receive support to prototype, incubate, and connect with private-sector investors. He noted that 200 innovators have already benefited from the initiative.
