Addis Ababa, June 20, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia’s vision of becoming a model of prosperity for Africa is steadily taking shape across all sectors, citing the country’s growing achievements in digital transformation and technology-driven development.
The Prime Minister made the remarks today while opening the four-day “Digital for Excellence” exhibition at the Science Museum and inaugurating the Unified MESOB Application, Africa’s first unified digital service platform that brings together 27 government services from multiple institutions on a single platform.
Speaking at the event, PM Abiy said the government has continued its efforts to modernize institutional service delivery.
He noted that the reforms undertaken in this regard, including successful initiatives to enhance government services, demonstrate the country’s technology-driven and purpose-oriented investment.
Commending the remarkable modernization of key civil service institutions, the Prime Minister described the MESOB one-stop service as critical economic infrastructure.
This achievement demonstrates that Ethiopia’s aspirations are not merely wishes, but realities that “we can build with our own hands and capabilities,” he said.
Noting that technology has played a major role in modernizing services and enhancing productivity in Ethiopia’s agriculture, industry, mining, tourism, and banking sectors, PM Abiy stressed the need to build on the country’s achievements by sharing its experience and expertise with African brothers and sisters while moving forward with determination to accomplish even greater results.
He also commended the rapid transformation of government services from the MESOB one-stop service to a mobile application.
“There is no other place in Africa where all services are provided through an integrated system like MESOB,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the one-stop service has expanded to 70 centers within a year.
He further revealed that countries with which Ethiopia has shared its experience have not established 70 such centers even in a decade.
The Prime Minister said accessibility to the Ethiopian MESOB one-stop service is expanding at a remarkable pace, emphasizing that the integrated digital service application is the first of its kind in Africa.
PM Abiy noted that the transformation enables citizens to access government services anytime and from anywhere through their mobile phones, underscoring that the MESOB one-stop service has effectively moved government services from physical centers to mobile devices.
He described the achievement as a successful endeavor attained by only a few countries.
The Prime Minister further stated that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) University will help make Ethiopia a model for Africa in many respects.
Building a country that does not pass poverty on to future generations and making Ethiopia a symbol of prosperity for Africa is becoming a reality across all sectors, he concluded.
