PM Abiy Says Gov’t Appointment Is Not for Leisure but a Profound National Trust Demanding Immense Effort

Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has described government appointment as a profound national trust requiring immense effort to strengthen Ethiopia, foster its prosperity and advance the country along the path of civilization.

In a message following the House of Peoples’ Representatives’ approval of the Council of Ministers today, the Prime Minister said appointment to government is not a position for leisure, but a realm of diligent labor and a responsibility that demands sustained commitment.

He said extensive work is required in the coming years to ensure that Ethiopia remains sovereign in its decision-making, united amidst its diversity, productive in creating and preserving value, and a leading regional and continental anchor.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of preserving and strengthening the capabilities Ethiopia passes on to the next generation.

He said the Medemer Government is committed to realizing this vision.

The message came after the House of Peoples’ Representatives approved the nominees for the Council of Ministers during its first regular session of the 7th parliamentary term’s first year of tenure.

The Prime Minister’s remarks set out the broader national responsibilities accompanying the formation of the new Medemer Government, emphasizing diligent service and sustained effort in advancing Ethiopia’s sovereignty, unity, productivity, regional and continental role, and intergenerational capabilities.
