Addis Ababa, November 30, 2025 (FMC) — Accelerating development requires bold strategic leaps, coordinated innovation, and the effective use of technology, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said, warning that slow, step-by-step progress wastes resources and energy.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during the recent annual training for senior leaders of the Prosperity Party, anchored on the principles of the “Medemer State.”
Challenges should not be seen as burdens but as sources of inspiration, he said. To avoid stagnation, Ethiopia must make deliberate leaps in key areas that are people-oriented, generation-oriented, multi-sectoral, and national in scope.
He emphasized the importance of pursuing knowledge and becoming active drivers of prosperity.
While following conventional paths may seem simple, it does not allow the nation to reach its goals quickly. “Trying to climb the ladder of progress step by step wastes resources and energy,” he said, adding that the necessary leaps are intended to close existing gaps, without which progress cannot occur.
The Prime Minister stressed that the ultimate goal is inclusive prosperity, which goes beyond monetary gains to encompass broader well-being. This prosperity is built on broad-based diligence and enduring skills, but it must not come at the expense of culture and morality.
He highlighted the pillars of national prosperity as economic, political, and social, noting that the economy should be for everyone, by everyone, and from everyone. Politics must be inclusive and participatory, and social development should span generations.
Achieving universal prosperity, PM Abiy said, also requires coordinated action among all stakeholders, including the government, the market, and society.
These actors form the foundation for Ethiopia’s structural transformation, and cumulative innovation and speed are essential to produce tangible results, he asserted.
He recalled projects implemented under his administration’s “Dine for Nation” initiative, citing the Gorgora Eco Resort as an example of a high-quality, comprehensive project realized through collaboration between the government and private sector.
“When the government and the public work together toward a common goal, significant development can be achieved,” he said.
Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that technology is a key driver of complete prosperity, connecting all sectors, including agriculture, mining, industry, tourism, and the digital economy.
He described the Medemer State’s transition and integration as focusing on bases, roads, bridges, and connectors. Urban areas serve as bases and hubs of growth, while agriculture provides a foundation to overcome challenges. Tourism and mining act as crossing roads, creating additional foundations. Industry functions as a bridge, and the digital economy acts as the connector linking all sectors.
The agricultural sector, he said, requires new vision, leadership support, private sector participation, and community involvement. Urban areas should foster mixed cultures, and both urban and rural areas must be knowledge-driven.
According to Abiy, tourism should serve as a bridge to the future, leveraging heritage for immediate benefits and long-term development.
Development, he added, is not just about preserving heritage but also ensuring quality services, safe environments, and meaningful experiences for visitors. Local foods, clothing, and other products should be prepared to allow tourists to actively participate, ensuring a memorable stay.
By combining strategic leaps, innovation, speed, and technology, Prime Minister Abiy concluded, Ethiopia can accelerate its development and achieve universal, inclusive prosperity for all citizens.
