Addis Ababa, September 17, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has described the philosophy of Medemer (synergy) as Ethiopia’s best antidote to the fractures of its past, presenting it as a unifying vision for a stronger, more resilient state.
Speaking at the launch of his fourth book, Medemer State, Abiy warned that adversaries have historically sought to exploit Ethiopia’s diversified nature.
“Creating division among us is the primary weapon employed by Ethiopia’s adversaries. Medemer is the cure to their ill intentions,” he emphasized.
The Prime Minister said Ethiopian unity has long alarmed its enemies, but it has also been the source of the country’s greatest achievements.
He called on citizens of all ethnic backgrounds to rally behind a shared vision, so that Ethiopia can “move faster and leapfrog towards national aspirations.”
PM Abiy highlighted that *Medemer State* envisions a governance framework where Ethiopia embraces diversity without fragmentation.
“The path forward is to gather Ethiopians around a common vision as much as possible. Having gathered that vision, then it is necessary to identify fractures and devise solutions,” he explained.
The Prime Minister tied the philosophy to tangible accomplishments, pointing to the GERD, the Green Legacy Initiative, and Ethiopia’s expanding infrastructure as examples of how unity and ambition have turned vision into reality.
Looking to the future, he reiterated his dream of an Ethiopia so prosperous that its parliament debates aid allocations for its neighbors rather than its own needs.
“My dream is to see Ethiopia transformed into a country that gives aid rather than receives it,” PM Abiy said.
Medemer State is presented as a guide to ensure this transformation, embedding unity, solidarity, and synergy at the heart of Ethiopia’s governance and development path.
