PM Abiy visited the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his high-level delegation recently visited the restored Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, highlighting the profound value of cultural heritage and the global importance of its preservation.

It has been learned that the successful restoration of Notre-Dame following the 2019 fire stands as a testament to France’s commitment to safeguarding its historical landmarks for future generations.

This visit offers meaningful reflections for Ethiopia. As a nation endowed with unparalleled historical and cultural treasures—from the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela to the castles of Gondar and the royal palace of Aba Jiffar—there is immense potential in prioritizing the restoration and conservation of our heritage, the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia has said.

This has been a key focus area for the Prime Minister of Ethiopia under the tourism pillar of the East African nation’s economic reform agenda, it was indicated.

By drawing on international best practices, Ethiopia can further advance its efforts in cultural preservation and sustainable tourism development, the PM Office asserted.

It is noteworthy that PM Abiy Ahmed and his high-level delegation paid a working visit to France where the Ethiopian Premier met and held talks with President Emanuel Macron on various matters of mutual interest.
