Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has welcomed Álvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), to Ethiopia as part of high-level participation in the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) underway in Addis Ababa.
In a message shared following their meeting, Prime Minister Abiy praised IFAD’s continued role in empowering rural communities and promoting inclusive, sustainable agricultural development. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s strong partnership with IFAD in advancing the shared goal of building resilient livelihoods across rural areas.
Earlier this morning, the Prime Minister also held discussions with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Qu Dongyu.
President Lario is among several global leaders and dignitaries who have arrived in Ethiopia for the three-day summit, which opened with action day field engagements showcasing Ethiopia’s food systems transformation journey.
