Addis Ababa, June 1, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia is advancing its national dialogue process with preparations currently underway to initiate consultations in the Tigray region, marking a key step toward resolving longstanding divisions and fostering national unity.
The Government Communication Service (GCS) reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the country’s complex challenges through inclusive and impartial dialogue, facilitated by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC).
The national dialogue has already engaged participants across 11 regional states and two city administrations. The Commission, established with legal and structural independence, has conducted wide-ranging consultations involving more than 200,000 Ethiopians over the past ten months.
In Addis Ababa, the 14th Federal Institutions and Associations Agenda-Setting Forum convened representatives from political parties, civic groups, community and religious leaders, security agencies, media institutions, and government bodies in the past three days to organize agendas for ongoing consultations at both regional and federal levels.
The government acknowledged that past methods of resolving ideological and political differences have not succeeded in creating lasting peace or trust in institutions.
To break this cycle, the statement emphasized the necessity of building a national consensus through inclusive public dialogue.
The government pledged to continue supporting the National Dialogue Commission to ensure its work remains fair, transparent, and independent.
The ongoing preparations to launch consultations in the Tigray region represent a vital milestone in including all regions in the national reconciliation process.
“As Ethiopia moves forward, building trust, overcoming divisions, and establishing a solid foundation for the future remain the country’s highest priorities,” the GCS concluded.
