Addis Ababa, May 20, 2025 (FMC) – The FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie has hailed the opening of new cement factories in Ethiopia as a major boost to the country’s construction sector, saying it is creating a conducive environment for developers and investors.
The President made the remarks today while inaugurating the expansion project of Pioneer Cement Manufacturing PLC in Dire Dawa. The factory, a joint venture between Ethiopian and Chinese investors, is expected to significantly support the country’s infrastructure development goals.
On the occasion, President Taye noted that the partnership between domestic and international investors reflects Ethiopia’s growing potential to attract foreign capital, promote knowledge transfer, and enhance productivity. He underlined that such collaboration marks a shift from previous challenges, when accessing essential construction inputs was a complicated and costly process.
He emphasized that the expansion of cement manufacturing capacity not only accelerates national development but also strengthens the broader investment climate in the sector.
Highlighting the broader impact of the project, the President added that Pioneer Cement is also demonstrating corporate social responsibility by creating job opportunities and fostering skills development and knowledge sharing in the local community.
