Addis Ababa, September 6, 2025 (FMC) — President João Lourenço of Angola arrived in Addis Ababa today to participate in the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, accompanied by Foreign Minister Tete António.
They were warmly welcomed at Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa, and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.
Meanwhile, leaders from several Caribbean nations have also arrived in Addis Ababa for the summit, including Prime Minister Gaston Alphonso Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis of The Bahamas, Prime Minister Ralph E. Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados. Earlier today, Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis also arrived in the Ethiopian capital.
The Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, scheduled for September 7 at the African Union Commission headquarters, brings together Heads of State and Government from the African Union and the Caribbean Community, alongside leaders from the World Bank, IMF, African Development Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, and Afreximbank. Convened on the third CARICOM-Africa Day, the summit is held under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” reflecting the commitment to deepen political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
The summit will also feature a high-level side event on reparations, memory, and sovereignty, a joint meeting of African and Caribbean Health Ministers, and a diaspora event hosted by Caribbean nationals in Ethiopia to strengthen Caribbean-Africa relations.
