President of Somalia arrives in Addis Ababa for UN Food Systems Summit

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 (FMC) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (PhD), has arrived in Addis Ababa to take part in the 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), which is being co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy from July 27–29, 2025.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, President Hassan Sheikh was warmly welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia Temesgen Tiruneh and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.

After receiving the Somali president, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen said: “On behalf of the Government of Ethiopia, I warmly welcome President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to Ethiopia — a symbol of African unity — as he joins us for the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit.”

The participation of the Somali President reflects the shared regional commitment to transforming food systems in the face of global challenges such as climate change, hunger, and malnutrition.

Heads of state and government, ministers, scientists, farmers, youth representatives, and development partners from around the world are attending the summit in Addis Ababa to review progress since the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and strengthen collaboration for sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.
