Addis Ababa, September 8, 2026 (FMC) — President Taye Atske-Selassie has called for stronger Qatari investment in Ethiopia, positioning private capital from Qatar as an important partner in the country’s drive to expand productive capacity and accelerate its next phase of economic transformation.
The President made the call during discussions with Ali Bin Abdullatif Al Misnad, a member of the Qatar Chamber Board, on the sidelines of the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM Congress) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The discussions focused on ways to deepen economic engagement between Ethiopia and Qatar by expanding Qatari investors’ participation in Ethiopia’s growing investment landscape.
President Taye highlighted investment opportunities in agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure development, consulting services and other strategic sectors, while outlining measures being undertaken by the Ethiopian government to attract foreign capital and create a more conducive investment environment.
He urged Qatari investors to take advantage of the opportunities emerging in Ethiopia and contribute to strengthening the trade and investment partnership between the two countries.
The engagement comes as Ethiopia seeks to mobilize greater foreign investment to support economic expansion, strengthen domestic productive capacity and unlock opportunities across sectors with significant potential for growth.
Al Misnad said Qatari investors are interested in exploring opportunities in Ethiopia’s healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, digital economy and consulting sectors, among others.
He further said the Qatar Chamber would work to encourage Qatari investors to capitalize on the investment opportunities available in Ethiopia and contribute to further strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries.
The discussions underscore a growing emphasis on translating Ethiopia-Qatar relations into expanded private-sector partnerships, with investment emerging as a key avenue for deepening bilateral economic ties.
