President Taye Receives Credentials of 14 Ambassadors

Addis Ababa, January 15, 2026 (FMC) — President Taye Atske Selassie received the letters of credence of 14 newly appointed ambassadors on Thursday.

The ambassadors represent South Sudan, Italy, Mauritius, Zambia, Germany, Jordan, New Zealand, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Kenya, Belarus, the Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, and Latvia.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions held with the President focused on Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform program, which has been registering notable progress, as well as ways of further strengthening bilateral relations between Ethiopia and the ambassadors’ respective countries.

The ambassadors expressed appreciation for the changes taking place in Ethiopia and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in various areas.

Italy’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sem Fabrizi, said Ethiopia and Italy share a long-standing historical relationship and reiterated his country’s commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly in culture and economic partnership.

Zambia’s Ambassador, Albert Muchanga, underscored the importance of strong and all-weather relations, reaffirming his country’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in agriculture and mining.

Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Galma Mukhe Boru, said the two countries would continue to strengthen economic and trade relations.

South Sudan’s Ambassador, Baak Valentino, said discussions also covered multilateral issues aimed at further reinforcing bilateral ties.

The Philippines’ Ambassador, Marie Charlotte, said the two countries would work to strengthen their historical relations and expand trade cooperation.

All ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with Ethiopia to advance bilateral relations.

In related developments, President Taye also held discussions with European External Action Service Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Olof Skoog on areas of cooperation between Ethiopia and the European Union.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos received Olof Skoog, who is in Ethiopia on an official working visit.
