Addis Ababa, February 13, 2026 (FMC) – The President of Equatorial Guinea, the President of Cabo Verde, and the Prime Minister of Senegal touched down in Addis Ababa this afternoon to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea was warmly received at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Minister of Urban and Infrastructure, Chaltu Sani, along with State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of Senegal was welcomed by the same officials upon his arrival. President José Maria Pereira Neves of Cabo Verde was received by Minister of Education, Berhanu Nega, alongside Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.
The summit, scheduled for February 14-15, will be held under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” Leaders are expected to discuss water and sanitation as critical factors for sustainable development, peace, climate resilience, and socio-economic transformation across the continent.
