Addis Ababa, October 19, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has expressed his condolences on the death of Grand Mufti Haji Oumer Idris, former President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council.
In a condolence message shared on his social media page, the Prime Minister stated, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Grand Mufti Haji Oumer Idris, the former President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council.”
He highlighted that the late Grand Mufti will always be remembered for his efforts in fostering unity among different communities and for ensuring the legal recognition of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the family of Grand Mufti Haji Oumer Idris and to all Muslims across Ethiopia.
