Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Extends Warm Mawlid Greetings to the Muslim Community

Addis Ababa, September 3, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has conveyed heartfelt greetings to Ethiopian Muslims and believers worldwide on the occasion of Mawlid, marking the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of commemorating the lives of great leaders by drawing lessons from their teachings, struggles, and perseverance. He stressed that the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) continues to serve as a source of guidance and strength.

“As we celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we are reminded of his example. We learn from his teachings, draw inspiration from the way he overcame challenges, and reflect on how his principles can shape our own lives,” Abiy stated.

The Prime Minister noted that this year’s Mawlid coincides with the closing days of the Ethiopian calendar year, a time of reflection and renewal. Quoting the Prophet’s words, “There are no two things that should go together better than patience and knowledge,” Abiy emphasized the values of resilience and wisdom as essential tools for Ethiopia’s continued transformation.

He affirmed that Ethiopia’s path of renewal is bearing fruit, attributing this progress to divine blessings and the collective commitment of its people. “Knowledge lights the way, and patience helps us endure trials with perseverance. From the Prophet, we have learned both,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to the Prophet’s teaching, “If you plant a tree and the Day of Judgment comes, continue to plant the tree,” underscoring Ethiopia’s determination to continue its good works regardless of challenges.

Looking ahead to the new Ethiopian year, Abiy called on the Muslim community to mark Mawlid with a spirit of renewal and to dedicate themselves to good deeds that please Allah. He concluded with hope and confidence, stating, “The year 2018 E.C. (2025/26) will be a year in which we strengthen Ethiopia in every aspect.”
