Addis Ababa, February 9, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today inaugurated Ethiopia’s first unmanned police service, also referred to as a smart police service, marking a new step in the use of technology in law enforcement.
In a social media post after the launch, the Prime Minister said the new service will enable citizens to access police services more quickly with the support of technology, while also strengthening the police’s ability to take rapid action.
He noted that the system is expected to streamline crime prevention efforts and improve the efficiency of policing operations.
Prime Minister Abiy added that the initiative will enhance the effectiveness of ongoing reforms aimed at making Ethiopia’s law enforcement institutions more competent and competitive. He said the launch aligns with the objectives of the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, which seeks to modernize public services through digital transformation.
