Addis Ababa, July 1, 2025 (FMC) – The Municipality of Rio de Janeiro formally presented its comprehensive operational plan for the 2025 BRICS events, including the Summit of Heads of State, which will take place from 6 to 7 July, TV BRICS reported, citing Toda Palavra.
The City of Rio begins welcoming BRICS delegations, with preparatory meetings running until the summit. In addition to the leaders’ meeting, five major BRICS-related events will take place across multiple locations, concluding Brazil’s current BRICS Presidency. More than 4,000 participants from 37 countries, including member states, partner nations and international organisations, are expected to attend.
Rio’s Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere announced Rio’s formal intention to host a future BRICS headquarters. He confirmed that discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are ongoing, and the city is prepared to offer infrastructure to accommodate a permanent BRICS presence alongside the New Development Bank.
Major pre-summit meetings include the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting on 4 July and the New Development Bank Governors’ Meeting on 5 July, both hosted in Copacabana. Business-related events will take place in the Port Zone, including the BRICS Women Business Alliance meeting on 4 July and the BRICS Business Forum on 5 July. A BRICS Young Leaders Forum will also take place on 6–7 July in central Rio.
The City of Rio de Janeiro emphasises that hosting the BRICS Summit not only reinforces Brazil’s role in global governance but also enhances Rio’s status as a global city capable of managing high-level international events while promoting sustainable urban development.
