Addis Ababa, December 15, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party (PP) has pledged that the government will listen to public demands and respond effectively, guiding the country toward inclusive and sustainable prosperity, the party announced in a statement on Monday.
The statement reflected on the nationwide public dialogues conducted over the past two weeks, which brought together senior officials and citizens from diverse sectors of society in Addis Ababa and major regional cities.
The public dialogues, held under the theme “The Virtues of Guba; Merits of the Medemer State,” attracted high public engagement and were conducted in 24 cities, with plans to expand to additional urban and rural areas to ensure full participation of the Ethiopian people.
According to the party, the dialogues serve two primary objectives: first, to evaluate the reality of the people’s progress, highlighting how the promise of prosperity has been realized in practice; second, to identify and provide solutions to challenges arising from both internal and external factors by directly listening to citizens’ concerns.
The public dialogues drew inspiration from the “7 Virtues of Guba,” announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in September 2025. These virtues include strategic national projects valued at over $30 billion—six times the GERD’s investment—such as fertilizer production, oil refining, natural gas and nuclear energy initiatives, housing development, and the construction of Ethiopian Airlines’ new world-class airport in Bishoftu.
The Prosperity Party emphasized that these projects aim to transform Ethiopia into a symbol of prosperity in Africa over the next five years, with significant impacts on economic freedom, employment, and wealth creation.
The party further highlighted that the Medemer philosophy, meaning “synergy,” has guided Ethiopia’s reforms and transformed the concept of hope into practical achievements. The public dialogues, according to the statement, allow the Medemer State to meet with the people it serves, review accomplishments, and discuss the next five-year development agenda. Participants recognized and appreciated the progress made across all sectors, including politics, economy, social services, and international relations.
In politics, the statement noted, reforms to expand and modernize the political landscape have strengthened a balanced system of cooperation and competition, with 275 party leaders—including ministers and state ministers—holding government positions. Economically, the Home-Grown Economic Reform (HGER) has driven productivity in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and tourism, addressing structural gaps and fostering transformative growth.
Socially, human-centered policies have enhanced public dignity, improved education and health services, and reduced aid dependency, while advancing social security and surplus production. In foreign affairs, Ethiopia has pursued a citizen-centered and interest-based approach, safeguarding natural resources and securing global support for its maritime claims, strengthening regional ties, and increasing international credibility.
The Prosperity Party emphasized that the government continues to listen to the public’s questions and grievances through the dialogue platform, demonstrating its commitment to public service. Participants reportedly responded with expressions of hope and appreciation, affirming confidence in the government despite misinformation circulating on social media.
The party also highlighted that the dialogues underscore widespread public support for free, fair, and credible national elections and for consolidating Ethiopia’s democratic system, alongside the next five years of planned prosperity.
“As a government established through the people’s desire for change, the Medemer State will continue to strengthen its leadership based on the principle of service from the people, by the people, and for the people,” the statement said.
The Prosperity Party reaffirmed its commitment to accepting this renewed public trust and advancing efforts to achieve Ethiopia’s full potential, pledging to listen to citizens, respond to their demands, and guide the nation toward inclusive prosperity.
