Addis Ababa, September 1, 2025 (FMC) — The Second Climate Week of 2025 officially opened on Monday at the Addis International Convention Center, running from September 1–6. Hosted by Ethiopia in collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the event is held under the theme “Dialogues for Ambition and Implementation.”
The opening ceremony brought together Party representatives, senior officials from African nations, policymakers, civil society organizations, international and regional institutions, experts, and other stakeholders from across the region and beyond, reflecting the inclusive, global spirit of the UN Climate Week model.
Serving as a precursor to the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), the event focuses on “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development.” It provides a platform for dialogue, capacity building, and showcasing locally led, actionable solutions to advance climate ambition and implementation under the Paris Agreement.
Over the course of the week, participants will take part in high-level consultations, side discussions, knowledge sharing, exhibitions, and networking opportunities, all designed to turn climate commitments into tangible outcomes.
This session is part of the UN’s bi-annual Climate Change Week series, following the first 2025 Climate Week held in Panama in May. According to the UN, the initiative aims to foster a global movement that transforms climate commitments into concrete actions and to provide a platform for establishing agendas for upcoming international and regional climate events.
