Somali Region Launches Mesob One-Stop Service, Advancing Digital Public Service Delivery

Addis Ababa, December 2025 (FMC) – The Somali Region has officially inaugurated the Mesob One-Stop Service center in Jigjiga, marking a major step forward in the region’s drive to modernize public administration and streamline service delivery.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Mustafe M. Omer, Chief Administrator of the Somali Region, alongside Aklilu Tadese, State Minister for Cabinet and Sector Oversight in the Prime Minister’s Office.

In its initial phase, the Jigjiga center consolidates nine government institutions under one roof, providing 32 distinct services to citizens in a single, integrated location.

The launch underscores the region’s alignment with the national “Medemer State” governance philosophy, spearheaded by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, which emphasizes institutional synergy, efficiency, and collaborative governance.

By bringing multiple services together, the Mesob center eliminates the need for citizens to navigate multiple government offices, significantly reducing wait times while promoting transparency and accountability.

Named after the traditional Ethiopian Mesob bread basket, a symbol of unity and sharing, the facility represents a blend of human expertise and advanced technology. The center is fully equipped with modern digital infrastructure, ensuring that services are processed with speed, accuracy, and in line with contemporary digital standards.

The rollout of Mesob centers nationwide follows a strategic directive from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who has emphasized, in leadership sessions on the Medemer philosophy, the importance of urban centers adopting unified service delivery models to minimize bureaucratic friction and enhance the dignity of citizens’ experiences.

The initiative is a key pillar of Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation strategy, which has seen substantial investment in digital IDs, e-governance platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure in recent years.

The Mesob concept serves as a tangible representation of this digital evolution, ensuring that while services increasingly move online, physical service points remain efficient, welcoming, and seamlessly integrated.

The successful launch in the Somali Region demonstrates a coordinated effort to extend the benefits of modernization nationwide. With the first phase now operational, the center is expected to expand its service offerings, further solidifying its role as a crucial bridge between the government and the people of the Somali Region.
