Addis Ababa, September 19, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has said that the Somali Region’s vast potential presents a unique opportunity to leave a lasting mark for both the nation and future generations.
The remarks came in a message sent pn his social media page in connection with a public rally held this morning in Jigjiga City to celebrate the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The mass celebrations, characterized by widespread support and joy, highlighted the region’s enthusiasm for national development.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen described the public demonstrations as a source of strength, underscoring the importance of hard work, continued development, and collective efforts to ensure prosperity.
He emphasized that the development-focused messages echoed across the region reflect a partnership between the government and the people, demonstrating a shared commitment to advancing Ethiopia’s progress.
Deputy PM Temesgen noted that the completion of the Renaissance Dam has inspired the people of the Somali Region, showing that history can be shaped through determination and effort. Highlighting ongoing agricultural initiatives, he cited the rapid expansion of wheat and rice production in the region as an example of its growing development potential.
