Addis Ababa, August 26, 2025 (FMC) – President Taye Atseke Selassie bid farewell to Tamara Mona, Switzerland’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, and Ronald Micallef, Malta’s Ambassador, recognizing their efforts in advancing robust bilateral and multilateral relations.
President Taye expressed appreciation for the ambassadors’ commitment to fostering cooperation across multiple sectors. He particularly highlighted his engagement with Ambassador Mona, noting that Ethiopia’s longstanding partnership with Switzerland has been consistently reinforced through sustained diplomatic exchanges and high-level government visits.
He also commended Malta for establishing its embassy in Addis Ababa and for swiftly cultivating strong bilateral relations with Ethiopia. The president emphasized that collaboration between the two nations has expanded in key areas, including education, culture, and the arts.
Ambassador Abraham Mengistu, Director General of European and American Affairs at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who attended the meeting, noted that President Taye encouraged Switzerland and Malta to prioritize economic cooperation in their future engagements with Ethiopia.
Ambassador Tamara Mona highlighted the enduring strength of Ethiopia-Switzerland relations and the successful initiatives implemented during her tenure. She underscored significant opportunities to enhance investment and trade, with ongoing efforts focused on these areas.
Malta’s Ambassador Ronald Micallef praised the rapid development of bilateral and multilateral ties since his country opened its embassy four years ago. He noted that initiatives are underway to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people connections between Ethiopia and Malta.
