Tana Forum Returns to Bahir Dar as Ethiopia Finalizes Preparations for Africa’s Security Dialogue

Addis Ababa, October 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has completed preparations to host the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, which will bring together African leaders, policymakers, scholars and international stakeholders in Bahir Dar to discuss the continent’s pressing peace and security challenges.

Abay Mengistu, head of the Amhara Regional State Government Communication Bureau, said at a media briefing that the Forum is scheduled to take place from October 23 to 25, 2026, under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.”

The discussions are expected to address urgent peace and security concerns across Africa, alongside evolving regional political dynamics and the continent’s pursuit of economic sovereignty.

Over the years, the Tana Forum has brought together leaders and scholars to develop policy ideas aimed at addressing Africa’s challenges and advancing African-led solutions to the continent’s development priorities, Abay said.

He described the Forum as a reflection of Ethiopia’s continued engagement in advancing Africa’s freedom, unity, growth and development, as well as the country’s capacity to host continental and international gatherings.

The Amhara regional government has made the necessary preparations to host the event, Abay said, calling on residents of Bahir Dar and surrounding areas, along with service providers, to welcome participants with Ethiopia’s renowned hospitality.

He also urged relevant institutions to recognize the opportunities offered by conference tourism, including promoting Ethiopia’s cultural heritage and tourist attractions and encouraging visitors to explore the country beyond the Forum’s proceedings.

Leaders from African countries and international institutions, members of the diplomatic community, civil society representatives, African scholars and other invited guests are expected to attend the gathering.

The Forum’s return to Bahir Dar will provide a platform for renewed dialogue on how African countries can advance peace and security while strengthening economic self-reliance and responding to a changing geopolitical landscape.
