Addis Ababa, April 5, 2026 (FMC) – Public rallies were held today in the Harari, South West Ethiopia Peoples Region, and Afar, with tens of thousands of participants expressing support for the government’s reform agenda and ongoing national development initiatives.
In Harari Region, a large-scale rally took place in Harar city, drawing senior government officials and a broad cross-section of the public. The rallies marked the eighth anniversary of the reform-driven government since April 2, 2018 (March 24, 2010 E.C.).
Participants highlighted the progress achieved since the launch of the reform process, emphasizing the tangible outcomes recorded across sectors. They reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining these gains and advancing ongoing development efforts. Messages conveyed during the rally reflected the symbolic significance of the reform milestone, portraying it as a foundation for continued advancement and a pathway toward broader national progress, alongside aspirations for a renewed and forward-looking Harar.
Similar demonstrations were staged in Bonga, Tercha and Tepi towns of the South West Ethiopia Peoples Region, where residents gathered to commemorate the anniversary and express support for the government’s reform-oriented policies.
Regional authorities indicated that the rallies were organized to recognize the achievements registered since April 2, 2018 (March 24, 2010 E.C.) and to highlight the impact of the comprehensive reforms implemented nationwide. Participants displayed banners carrying messages of support, reflecting on the changes recorded over the past eight years.
The rallies brought together senior regional and zonal officials, as well as local residents, all of whom voiced their support for the government’s development agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining progress and building on the gains achieved.
