Addis Ababa, February 18, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the Tulu Kapi Gold Development Project in West Wollega Zone of Oromia region demonstrates how Ethiopia can responsibly harness its natural resources to benefit both the nation and local communities.
The Prime Minister traveled to Kelem Wollega Zone today, arriving in Dembi Dolo town. Earlier in his visit to the zone, he reviewed key regional development initiatives, including the Qeto Irrigation Infrastructure Development Project in Sedi Chanka and Hawa Gelan woredas, as well as other ongoing agricultural and road infrastructure projects, before proceeding to the mining site.
On the occasion, PM Abiy and his high-level delegation toured the Tulu Kapi Gold Development Project in West Wollega Zone to assess its operations and progress firsthand.
He noted that the project is being developed through a partnership between the government and private investors, emphasizing that it is designed not only to generate economic returns but also to stimulate broader development in the surrounding area.
“Beyond its economic potential, the project will stimulate other development in the area, including education, roads, healthcare facilities, and modern housing,” the Prime Minister wrote on his social media page.
Reflecting on the outcomes he observed, PM Abiy said he was encouraged by the impact on local communities.
“Seeing the project firsthand, I am confident that with continued effort, it will not only generate economic growth but also uplift the local communities and inspire further development in the region,” he added.
