Addis Ababa, July 2, 2026 (FMC) — President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended a congratulatory message to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the ruling Prosperity Party following their victory in Ethiopia’s general election.
In his message, Museveni underscored the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between Ethiopia and Uganda, highlighting shared aspirations for peace, stability, and economic growth, as well as deeper regional integration and the advancement of Africa’s collective interests.
He also expressed confidence in the incumbent Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership in addressing national challenges and advancing prosperity for the Ethiopian people.
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages continue to arrive from across the world following the election outcome, extending goodwill to PM Abiy Ahmed, the Prosperity Party, and the Ethiopian people.
The 7th General Election was conducted under the supervision of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), with voting held across federal and regional constituencies in a generally peaceful environment.
The process was observed by African-led election observation missions, including the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), alongside domestic stakeholder groups.
The final certified results gave the Prosperity Party a mandate to form the next federal government and convene a new parliamentary session.
