UN Deputy Secretary-General and global delegates visit key dev’t projects in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 (FMC) — United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, Kenya’s First Lady Rachel Ruto, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General Qu Dongyu, and other senior international delegates attending the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4) visited several development initiatives in Addis Ababa today.

The delegation toured the Gulele Integrated Development Project, the Lemi Kura Agricultural Market, a health center, a school implementing a feeding program, and other community institutions.

The visit included the Gulele Bakery Center, a multifaceted facility comprising two bakeries, a daycare center, grain storage facilities, a flour mill, and other service centers. These projects are designed to empower women, mothers, and youth by providing economic opportunities and improving access to essential social services.

The delegation’s visit offered firsthand insight into Ethiopia’s advances toward ensuring food security and promoting inclusive urban development.

After the site visits, the delegates participated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony under Ethiopia’s Green Legacy initiative, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
