Addis Ababa, May 12, 2026 (FMC) — UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Addis Ababa this evening to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
Guterres was received at Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and other senior government officials.
The deputy prime minister described the visit as a reaffirmation of shared commitments to global cooperation and dialogue.
“Welcome to Ethiopia, the Land of Origins, and to Addis Ababa, Africa’s diplomatic capital,” Deputy PM Temesgen said in a social media post after welcoming the UN chief, noting that Guterres’ presence comes at a pivotal moment in the country’s journey of renewal and reform.
