Viral Fame Saves ‘Donald Trump’ Buffalo from Eid Sacrifice in Bangladesh

Addis Ababa, May 27, 2026 (FMC) — A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” because of its distinctive blond hair resembling the hairstyle of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been spared from Eid al-Adha sacrifice following a last-minute intervention by authorities.

The nearly 700-kilogram buffalo had already been sold for ritual slaughter ahead of the Muslim holiday when Bangladesh’s Home Ministry stepped in amid growing public attention and security concerns caused by large crowds gathering to see the animal.

According to officials, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo be spared, the buyer refunded, and the animal transferred to the national zoo in Dhaka.

The buffalo, raised on a farm in Narayanganj district near Dhaka, became a nationwide sensation after videos and photos of the animal went viral on social media. Visitors reportedly traveled from different parts of the country to take selfies and videos with the unusually colored buffalo, whose pale blond tuft and calm demeanor drew widespread fascination.

Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha said the nickname was given by his younger brother, who noticed the resemblance between the buffalo’s hairstyle and Trump’s signature look. He added that the animal required special care, including multiple baths and meals each day.

Albino buffaloes are considered extremely rare in Bangladesh, where most buffaloes are dark-colored. The animal’s unusual appearance, combined with its viral popularity, turned it into one of the most talked-about attractions ahead of this year’s Eid al-Adha celebrations.
