Addis Ababa, October 17, 2026 (FMC) — Tens of thousands of residents flooded streets and public squares across towns in the Amhara Region this morning, pledging support for the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), reaffirming their commitment to national sovereignty, and backing government efforts to secure lasting peace.
The rallies, held in Gondar, Woldia, Sekota, Debre Tabor, Lalibela, Genda Wuha and other towns, brought together residents from different walks of life, including community elders, religious leaders and young people, in a show of solidarity with the country’s defense force and other security institutions.
“We stand with the ENDF” was among the central messages conveyed through the rallies, as residents paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the national defense force and federal and regional security personnel. They pledged to support the forces’ efforts to protect the country and voiced backing for government measures aimed at establishing peace and stability.
Residents also declared that Ethiopia’s unity would not be undermined by forces seeking to disrupt peace, and described the ENDF as a symbol of the country’s multinational identity. They expressed their readiness to stand alongside the government in strengthening the country, advancing development and safeguarding its national interests.
The rallies also carried messages on Ethiopia’s aspiration for sea access. Declaring, “We will move from the dam to the port,” residents affirmed their commitment to the country’s maritime ambitions and said they were prepared to contribute to the realization of Ethiopia’s national interests.
They further condemned forces they said were aligning with Ethiopia’s historical adversaries to undermine the country’s peace, while reaffirming their determination to uphold national dignity and sovereignty.
Residents also described the ENDF as a force contributing to peace beyond Ethiopia’s borders, highlighting its role in regional stability and security.
The rallies underscored the residents’ stated resolve to support the ENDF, stand behind peace efforts and defend Ethiopia’s unity and sovereignty.
