At least 63 killed in multi-vehicle crash on Uganda’s Kampala–Gulu highway

Addis Ababa, October 22, 2025 (FMC) – At least 63 people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the Kampala–Gulu highway in western Uganda, police have confirmed.

The crash occurred just after midnight when two buses collided head-on during overtaking maneuvers. One driver swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, triggering a chain reaction that caused at least four other vehicles to lose control and overturn multiple times.

“All 63 fatalities were occupants of the involved vehicles, and several others sustained injuries,” the police said in a statement posted on X.

Those injured were taken to Kiryandongo Hospital and other nearby medical facilities. The authorities have not yet released details on the number of injured or the severity of their wounds.

Uganda Police are continuing investigations into the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident, according to several reports.
