Brazil hosts BRICS Culture Ministers Meeting

Addis Ababa, May 29, 2025 (FMC) – The 10th meeting of BRICS culture ministers was held in Brasilia. The meeting marked a new stage in the cultural integration of the group’s countries – now with the participation of Indonesia – with the adoption of the Brazilian Declaration, a document that sets out directions for more inclusive, sustainable and multipolar joint action in the field of culture.

Brazilian Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes emphasised the role of BRICS as a platform for cultural dialogue and strengthening multilateralism, which is in line with the priorities of Lula da Silva’s government, such as the G20 presidency, leadership of BRICS in 2025 and hosting COP30.

The new declaration reaffirms the countries’ commitment to cultural diversity as a fundamental principle of sustainable development and more equitable global governance.

The creation of a BRICS platform for cultural and creative industries, the protection of heritage from climate change, and the promotion of culture as an engine of the economy were among the commitments made, according to the report by TV BRICS.
