Cameroon Seeks to Replicate Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation, Says Prime Minister

Addis Ababa, December 6, 2025 (FMC) – Cameroon’s Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute has highlighted Ethiopia’s digital transformation as a model for his country, praising the collaboration between Ethio telecom and CAMTEL as a strategic step toward advancing Cameroon’s digital agenda.

During a high-level meeting with Ethio Telecom CEO Ms. Frehiwot Tamru and her delegation, the Prime Minister emphasized that digitalization is a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth and underlined the importance of cooperation among African telecom operators to achieve this goal.

He welcomed the initiative taken by both institutions and pledged Cameroon’s support to ensure Ethiopia’s successful digital transformation can inform and inspire similar progress in Cameroon.

For her part, Ethio telecom CEO Ms. Frehiwot Tamru outlined Ethiopia’s journey toward digital transformation, underscoring the company’s role in expanding nationwide connectivity, enhancing affordability, and promoting financial inclusion.

She described the collaboration with CAMTEL as both a privilege and a strategic responsibility to support Cameroon’s digital ambitions.

Tamru stressed that digital innovation does more than improve services—it generates opportunities, empowers citizens, strengthens economies, and lays the foundation for sustainable, inclusive growth.

She confirmed that Ethio telecom will share its knowledge, expertise, and best practices to enable CAMTEL to take a central role in Cameroon’s digital future.

She also noted the wider continental significance of the partnership, stating that collaboration among African telecom operators can accelerate the continent’s digital economy, unlock greater value, and advance shared prosperity.

CAMTEL Director General Judith Yah Sunday highlighted Ethio telecom’s achievements in implementing the “Digital Ethiopia” strategy and expressed confidence that the partnership will help Cameroon accelerate modernization and achieve service excellence.

The Ethiopian delegation also held strategic discussions with Cameroon’s Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, and Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, in Yaoundé to further explore opportunities for collaboration in the digital sector.
