Chinese president meets with head of BRICS New Development Bank
Addis Ababa, April 30, 2025 (FMC) – Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the headquarters of the New Development Bank (NDB) in Shanghai and held a meeting with the President of the financial institution Dilma Rousseff, TV BRICS reported, citing Xinhua News Agency.
On the occasion, Xi Jinping congratulated Rousseff on her re-election and emphasised that the NDB is the world’s first multilateral development institution created and managed by emerging economies.
He called the bank “a pioneering initiative for the unity and self-improvement of the Global South,” and noted its role in reforming the international system of global governance.
The Chinese leader said cooperation in BRICS is reaching a new level and the NDB is ready to move into the second phase of strong and sustainable growth. He urged the institution to provide affordable, sustainable and quality financing for infrastructure projects.
Xi Jinping emphasised the importance of strengthening the bank’s work in green finance and digital development and technology solutions, as well as supporting developing countries in bridging the digital divide and accelerating low-carbon transformation.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the voice of the global South in international financial discussions, protecting the legitimate interests of these countries and promoting their pursuit of modernisation.
The Chinese leader affirmed that Beijing will continue to support the NDB’s activities as a host country. He said China is willing to further co-operate with the bank in implementing green, innovative, and sustainable development projects.
