Defense Minister says national pride and modern might define Ethiopia’s army

Addis Ababa, June 1, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has built a modern, professional, and valiant national defense force that embodies the pride of the nation and its people, according to Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed.

In a media briefing on the activities, achievements, and future missions of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), the minister highlighted the far-reaching reforms undertaken across Ethiopia’s security and defense institutions.

She emphasized that the military profession remains a noble and heroic calling—chosen by those willing to sacrifice their lives for the sovereignty, peace, and unity of the nation.

Noting the evolution of warfare globally, Minister Aisha said Ethiopia has successfully established a technologically equipped and well-structured defense force capable of confronting modern threats.

She stated that the ENDF has become a reliable pillar in safeguarding national sovereignty, guided by unity and professionalism.

Having emerged stronger from complex challenges, the ENDF is now composed of advanced units, including the ground force, air force, mechanized divisions, naval force, special operations, and a cyber command—all coordinated to prevent and neutralize threats from any direction.

The minister noted that the ENDF has taken decisive measures against groups attempting to undermine the constitutional order, contributing significantly to national peace and stability. Law enforcement operations against extremist and terrorist groups have yielded results, with many forced to surrender peacefully.

Aisha underlined that the army, in close coordination with other law enforcement bodies, has played a critical role in stabilizing unrest-affected areas and ensuring the safe movement of people and goods.

Issuing a stern warning, the minister called on individuals and groups who defame the army on social media—despite its sacrifices for national peace and sovereignty—to stop their actions.

She also accused Ethiopia’s historical adversaries of conspiring with internal traitors to derail the country’s development. “Those who govern through fear and force their people into exile have no moral ground to lecture Ethiopia,” she stated.

Minister Aisha concluded by reaffirming that Ethiopia remains a nation of enduring peace and security. She underscored that efforts to modernize and strengthen the defense force will continue with renewed determination.
