Deputy PM highlights role of All-Ethiopia Games in youth dev’t and national unity
Addis Ababa, June 17, 2025 (FMC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh underscored the importance of the All-Ethiopia Games as a vital platform for Ethiopia’s youth to deepen their understanding of the country’s history and cultural heritage.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 6th All-Ethiopia Games in Jimma City, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the event, hosted in Jimma—the birthplace of Abba Jifar and a historic center of Ethiopian nationalism—offers young athletes a unique opportunity to develop key life skills such as inclusiveness, fairness, teamwork, and responsibility.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen noted that sports play a fundamental role in shaping the future citizens of Ethiopia, describing the sector as a cornerstone for producing a vibrant and capable generation. Reflecting the government’s commitment to this vision, he highlighted ongoing efforts to construct sports facilities of various scales across the country to ensure widespread access and participation.
He further pointed out the significance of reviving the All-Ethiopia Games after a nine-year hiatus, describing the event as a powerful symbol of national resilience and unity.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen expressed gratitude to the regional and city administrations, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the event organizers, as well as the Oromia Regional State and Jimma City for their crucial roles in facilitating the successful launch of the games.
